White-winged Crossbill
I will return to Mexico on March 20th having spent 6 weeks with my mother in Anchorage, Alaska following my father’s death. She will need more care so time will tell how this new part of our journey together will unfold.
These birds are out in my mother’s feeder eating cracked sunflower seeds as we speak. This photo shows one eating snow for a drink of water. Because of the open mouth it is difficult to see how the bills cross when closed.
