4th Annual Yoga & Birding Group Leaves Los Muertos for Yelapa
Francisco (13) Ismael (8) Junior Bird Guides
These brothers have begun classes and excursions with me to begin learning about the birds of Yelapa. I pay each of them and the groups I take out give money to a store account for their family. The boys’ family has been beggers for at least three generations and I am trying to help them into a different life. Only time will tell if this is a possibility-or even a good idea. I require they stay in school to go birding with me, as they would quit school “in a flash” if they had the chance to earn money. My short-term goal is they rise a little on the social ladder thus helping their self-esteem. A long-term goal is that they become expert birders with viable employment and they help protect the wildlife of Yelapa.
Gray Silky-flycatcher (Ptilogonys cinereus)
We saw this species in the trees along the road to San Sebastion del Oeste on 1/20/07. There were 10 plus hanging around in the flock of 30 plus Cedar Waxwings.
