Welcome to Birding in Yelapa Mexico

Filed under: Tours, Testimonial — Cody at 2:14 pm on Tuesday, October 10, 2006

Welcome to our website and blog. Our goal is to provide an easy way for you to sign up for tours and retreats. In addition we want to give you regional birding information and contacts to other area resources so that you may learn more about the flora and fauna of the area and the services provided for you in Yelapa Mexico. In addition to all that we want you to meet our neighbors, get a taste of Yelapa and to give you an opportunity to learn about items of interest in the surrounding pueblos.

If you are already in Yelapa you may sign up for tours at our house in the middle of the pueblo (La Casa de Judi y Codi) or at the Lagunita Coffee Company Espresso Stand at the Hotel Lagunita on the main beach.

TESTIMONIAL:

Cody’s bird-watching trip to San Sebastian del Oeste
was a highlight of my beautiful year. The journey
itself is a scenic time-travel experience to a Mexico
of centuries past.

The eyes are filled with a mountainous pine forest, a
village as picturesque and pristine as can be, citrus
trees, coffee plants, jacarandas and the like are
everywhere. The spirit of the place, tangible. The
ears are filled with a peace, the peace of a quiet,
industrious folk, of mountain strength and of
birdsong. The taste is filled with scrumptious fare.

Cody is the most fun, easy going, humor-filled,
capable and knowledgeable guide. I am a lifetime
birder and I, through Cody, was able to add no less
than 8 new species to my life list.

Joy and peace, expansion and knowledge, camaraderie
and loveliness.

A week’s experience in a one-night’s journey.

Thank you Cody, I would like to go with you again and
again. Claudia

Cody in Alaska

I will be in Alaska this winter, giving support to my mother.  I will be in Yelapa for the month of February only.

For bird tours in the area write info@birdinginmexico.com. Alejandro will take great care of you and is the best bird tour leader in the region. Ask Alejandro about the Military Macaw Consevation project “Macaws Forever” or “Guacamayas Siempre”. You can help count and save these beautiful birds while you are the region.

Surrounded by several hundered acres of birding, if you must sleep when you go birding, this is the only place to do it!

These windows all look out on the fields and a pond. I have seen Black-bellied Whistling Duck, Crested Caracara, Reddish Egret, Acorn Woodpecker, Blue-grey knatcatcher, Striped-headed Sparrows, Broad-winged Hummingbirds, Vermillion Flycatchers, Great Egrets, Ferrugenous Pygmy Owls and many, many more species from this view. Walk through the acres of orchards and see the Orchard Oriole. Look into the hills and see the Military Macaws. Sit on the steps and view the hummingbirds.

Meditate, do yoga, hold a reading group or a family reunion.

This photo shows part of the dock on the lake that these cottages overlook. Waterfowl and waders seen there include: Black-bellied Whistling ducks, Neotropic Cormorant, Louisiana Heron, Reddish Egret and many others.  I have spent hours and days here - a quiet retreat space close enough to “civilization” that you can take a bus ride into Puerto Vallarta for the day, and return to absolute quiet at night. Better yet, stay out here the whole time and relax with your tour, family, book group, women’s group, church group or Red Hat Club!

Visit this world-class venue on your trip to Puerto Vallarta. (In true Mexico style there is a restaurant down the road towards Puerto Vallarta that has decided to advertise its “Botanical Garden”). Do not be fooled!

Just one half hour south of Puerto Vallarta on the coastal highway 200, The Vallarta Botanical Garden is a BGCI certified (Botanical Garden Conservation International) Botanical Garden - 24 acres with active botanical research, education, memberships, and award winning dining. This is a registered non-profit in Mexico and the United States, so come and join or donate to a tremendous array of programs. Come see us! Closed Mondays
